Object administration

Object administration offers a folder structure to manage objects. Here it is possible to create new objects, to process existing objects and to delete existing objects.

An object can be either

The objects are the basis for the entire planning process. All planning data entered by the user are written to a corresponding object and saved.

The tree

The tree presents a hierarchic view of all objects (like Windows Explorer).

The object list

The area on the right is the object list – it lists all objects that are contained in the highlighted folder. However, the object list does not only show the objects that are directly contained in this folder, it also shows all objects of the subordinated folders in the selected folder. You could say that the right side is the flat (as opposed to hierarchical) depiction of all objects that exist downstream of the selected object in the tree (however, on the right side no folders are listed because they are only relevant for the hierarchical structure in the tree). The objects listed on a white background are the objects that are contained directly in the highlighted folder, the objects listed on a blue background are the objects that are contained in a subfolder.

The selection box

For a view that shows only elements belonging to a certain object type, click the selection box and choose the desired object type. The object list is then filtered as follows: it will now only show all objects fulfilling the chosen object type criteria that are contained in the selected folder from the tree.

Creating new objects

If you wish to improve your overview, proceed as follows: In object administration, click on the “New folder” icon or right-click with the mouse to create a folder in which you can place your objects. For this purpose, highlight the folder under which you wish to create the new folder. Now press the right mouse button, and a context menu will open.

Creating new objects

Instead of right-clicking, you can also create new objects by clicking the corresponding icon in the toolbar. When you have selected “New” and “Folder” in the context menu, the following prompt will appear:

Creating new folder

Now you must enter a name for the folder. Optionally, you may enter a description.

Hint  The name of an object must not contain any special characters or blanks, and it must be unique throughout the world of object administration – for instance, if a table called “Sales” already exists, it is not possible to also create a folder and name it “Sales” as well. In contrast, descriptions may contain special characters and do not have to be unique.

The new folder is created under the previously highlighted folder.

The same principle applies to the creation of all new objects.

Organizing objects

In the object tree, it is possible to drag and drop folders and objects from one folder to another. Within a folder, the order can be changed with the ‘move up’ respectively ‘move down’ icon. The ‘Save’ button of object administration concerns the order of the objects. Therefore, please ensure that you save these changes. If you quit object administration without saving, you will be asked whether you wish to save the changes.

Hint  The ‘Save’ function in object administration refers exclusively to the order of objects in the tree. The objects themselves are automatically saved when they are created or if you press OK when you quit the designers.
