The Ad-Hoc Analysis ribbon contains the CoPlanner Analyzer and predefined analysis evaluations.

CoPlanner Analyzer

The Analyser is an interface for data definition. The Analyzer allows you to select databases and analyse them via drag and drop in a browser.

The object tree

The object tree is the dropdown list that is used for selecting the data source or report which will serve as the basis for a report. The object tree is located in the upper left corner of the Analyzer.

The object tree has three main sections:

  1. My Reports: This is where users can save their reports. This folder is saved on a per-user basis. The saved reports can only be viewed by the user who saved them.
  2. Public Reports: All data sources/reports in this folder are visible and available to all users.
  3. Data Sources (PowerUsers only): This folder lists all objects that can serve as the basis for a report. The objects are grouped according to connectors. This folder is visible only to the users Manufacturer, PowerUser, and Partner. CoPlanner standard users do not have access to this selection. Objects in this folder must be made available by users with access to this folder. This is done by creating a link in the Public Reports folder.

The object tree contains two different types of objects:

  1. Data Sources: These objects do not have defined filters or axis dimensions and do not use templates. They contain the permitted filters and axis dimensions and serve as the basis for creating reports.

The following icons are used for Data Sources:
CoPlanner Cube
OLAP Cube
CoPlanner Tables

  1. Reports can be saved either in My Reports or in Public Reports. These folders are designated by the predefined filters or dimensions that were used on the axes. Reports are marked by the icon .

Using the object tree

As we have seen, all data sources are accessible only to the users Manufacturer, PowerUser, and Partner. These data objects are made available by the creation of an entry for the desired data source in the Public Reports folder. When a user creates a report, this report can be saved either in My Reports or in Public Reports.

Hint  Only PowerUsers may save reports in Public Reports. If you want to save one of your reports in this folder, please contact your PowerUser.

Access to the contents of the object tree can be facilitated by creating folders. Users with the appropriate user rights can create and delete views in the corresponding folders and can also create and delete subfolders.

Sharing data for all users

This option is only available to the users Manufacturer, Partner, and PowerUser. To share a data source, please select the data source, left-click on it and drag it to the place in the object tree where you want it to be available (Public Reports or a subfolder of Public Reports). The folders will close at the start of the dragging process. The folder names of folders that are available for dragging data into will be shown in black, while folders not available will be greyed out. The current folder, i.e. the folder into which the data was dragged, will be shown with a yellow background.

Renaming folders

Right-click on the folder you want to rename. This will display a context menu. Select the “Rename” menu item. You can now give the folder a new name. The folders My Reports, Public Reports, Data Sources, and the subfolders of Data Sources cannot be renamed by users.

Hint  Context menu: Only those commands will be available that the user is permitted to use.

Creating a new folder

Right-click on the folder in which you want to create a new folder, and select “New folder” from the context menu. A new folder will be created, and the user can now name the new folder.

Deleting a report or a folder

Right-click on the report or folder you want to delete. A context menu will appear. Select “Delete”. If the option to delete is not available (i.e. if it cannot be selected), then you do not have permission to delete the report or folder. If a folder contains subfolders or reports, these must be removed before the folder can be deleted.

Functionality of the Analyzer

When the Analyzer is started, it initially opens with no data object selected.

When working with the Analyzer, the first step is to select a data object from the tree located in the upper left-hand corner of the Analyzer.

After you have selected a data object, the dimensions that can be used as axis dimensions or filters will be available in the right-hand pane. Additionally, the measures that can be displayed or hidden will be available. Elements – dimensions and measures – that do not have an associated icon ( ()) will not be available here. Measures without an icon will not be shown, and dimensions without an icon will be ignored. You can rotate the axes by clicking on the icon. To transfer only the measure dimension to the opposite axis, press and hold the Ctrl key. To use a dimension as an axis dimension, drag the dimension to the position of the desired axis and drop it there.

If you want to display fewer measures, simply click on the measure you wish to hide.

To display the hidden measure again, click on it again.

You can add dimensions as filters without using drag & drop. The procedure is identical to showing or hiding measures, except that, in this case, the dimension must be selected.

Enterprise Edition, CoPlanner Analyzer: Showing/hiding dimensions

If a dimension was added as a filter, the dimension can be removed again by double-clicking on it in the filter area.

You can also use filter dimensions as axis dimensions by means of drag & drop. To do so, simply click on the dimension in the filter, hold the left mouse key, and drag the dimension to the desired axis. When the desired position is highlighted, release the left mouse key. The dimension will be inserted and will now serve as a dimension on the axis.

To change the order of the measures (fields), click on the measure you want to move and drag it to the desired location. A bold black line will display the current position where the measure will be inserted when you release the left mouse button.

Additionally, you can change the order of the measures in the “Select measures” dialogue. Open the dialogue by clicking on the “Select measure” button . Now change the position of the selected measure using the Up and Down arrow icons.

Dimensions can be positioned on the axis (to the left or right of a previously inserted dimension), or they can replace other axis dimensions. The border around the dimensions on the axis shows the position to which the dimensions will be moved.
